Americanism

The American Legion's is devoted to law and order, the raising of wholesome youth, respectful observance of patriotic holidays and remembrances, education and law-abiding citizenship. following are some of our programs dedicated to these initiatives.

Collect and Retire Unserviceable Flags

You may bring your unserviceable flags to the back entrance of the Post during regular business hours seven days a week (4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.) Please call 830.625.0179 to ensure the Post is open prior to making the trip.

Our Post conducts disposal ceremonies for unserviceable flags approximately quarterly. A formal, publc ceremony is held annually on Flag Day (June 14) at the Post.

Boys State

The Post sponsors young men from each of our participating local schools to attend Boys State. In 2024, we are sponsoring 18 boys through the generous support of our American Legion family and local organizations, including Garden Ridge Lions Club and NB Noon Lions Club.  

Girls State

Girls State is a program with a long history of building connections and educating younger generations on the duties, privileges, and responsibilities of being an American citizen. Visit Texas Bluebonnet Girls State for more information.


School Awards and Scholarships

The American Legion Legacy Scholarship provides college funding to children of post-9/11 veterans who died on active duty, or veterans who have a combined VA disability rating of 50% or greater. Apply between January 1 and April 15.

Oratorical Competition

The purpose of the American Legion’s National High School Oratorical Contest is to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the Constitution of the United States on the part of high school students. Other objectives of the contest include the development of leadership qualities, the ability to think and speak clearly and intelligently, and the preparation for acceptance of the duties and responsibilities and the rights and privileges of American citizenship.


Support Boy Scouts

Our Post works with local boy scouts as they pursue Eagle Scout projects. 


Support ROTC

The American Legion is a strong supporter of Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) and Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) programs across the country. 

 
Encourage Voter Participation

Our Legionnaires volunteer as poll workers, and our Post encourages all members and our community to vote in all primaries and elections.
